From Pima Association of Governments (PAG) website:

Leave your car at home and join the worldwide movement to celebrate sustainable transportation on Car Free Tucson Day. This international event is held on September 22. It’s a day to walk, bike or ride the bus to work.

If you already walk, bike or ride the bus recruit a friend, work associate or family member to join you. If you don’t currently walk, bike or ride the bus this is a perfect day to try one of these transportation options and then tell your story in words, photos, or video. You can qualify for prizes when you post your story below or on the Sun Rideshare Facebook page.

Everyone has two chances to win. First will be a selection of winners based on the creativity of the commute story submitted. A panel of judges will select a first, second and third place winner. The second opportunity to win will be a random drawing for prizes among those who submit a story.

The prizes for the creativity judging are a Kindle for first place, a $75 Visa gift card for second place and a $50 Visa gift card for third place. There are four judges, one from each of the sponsoring agencies. The prizes for the random drawing are a $100 Visa gift card for first place, second prize is a $50 Visa gift card, and third prize is a $25 Visa gift card.

In the random drawing a written commute story gets one point or one entry in the drawing. A commute story with photographs gets two points and a commute story with video and audio gets three points .

You can post your story between September 22 and September 26. Participants can only win once. Winners will be contacted by September 30 and posted on the Sun Rideshare Facebook page. Please contact Ruth Reiman, rreiman@pagnet.org or 520-792-1093 if you have questions or need help posting on Facebook.

I bet creative commute stories (like using a skateboard or a combination of alternative transporation modes, or even a Segway) may win you a prize! If you can’t go entirely “car free” today, at least try to scale back on use of the automobile/truck.
